It's May First, time to recap the month in baseball. April does matter, much to our chagrin.

AL East - The series to battle for first is...Orioles vs Blue Jays?!? Say it ain't Sosa! O's are looking solid but Ponson and Lopez, pray for rain pray for rain doesn't hold up as well....But Ray Miller running the bullpen just Feels Right (tm). Expect a bump in their pitching from the maestro himself. Meanwhile Yankees and Red Sox do a backslide and give Lou Pinella some hope of escaping last place. Just slight.

AL Central - Best games this season will be shaking out here. Twins, Indians, and White Sox all have exciting interesting clubs. White Sox have that "family" attitude, which also means they will sit down and slug it out with each other for the sake of it. Detroit? Maybe they will go .500 this year. Royals? Well, the Indians and Twins do it with small market dollars, and the Royals can't, so it must be the GM - Will you finally dump Baird?

AL West - snoozefest so far. Jamie Moyer is my age and throwing balls how fast - 70 MPH? This division will remain a joke until the California Angels come back to life. Trade Vlad to a fun team. Seriously. A's are still a .500 team. This will be a good test of whether Beaneball will play out - new rotation, same results? Oh wait, no bats.

NL East - Let's see, it's April which means Bobby Cox has been thawed out, put a plug of chaw in his mouth, and called up Leo Mazzone and they started working their mojo magic down in Atlanta. Man takes nothing, shapes into something. This dog will hunt again...Florida is looking sharp, and the Nationals now have fans to play for besides uber-god Frank Robinson's words and actions. That alone will give them a 10 game uptick this year. Pedro is Mets-see baseball of course, and Jon Lieber was the deal of the year for the phillies. Too bad they didn't keep up in the arms race.

NL Central - So the Pirates suck, the GM is not good at picking talent, and ownership is scraping the revenue money from the team and pocketing it. Time for a coup d'teat? I think so. Cubs are dead unless Dusty can spin a new pitching staff together...St. Louis...if it wasn't for Pujols, the team is too boring to keep one's attention. But they win and that matters. Houston has no bats.

NL West - Giants are in holding pattern until Barry arrives. That will be the mid season joly. If Alou can hold them together for awhile, they can out run the Dodgers, who are still erratic but have a good record. Isn't it great that they all have one team they can count on beating up on - Colorado, once again. Kill this team now, please.

Wild leeks, or a cross between a green onion and garlic. Pungent aroma. They appear once a year here. They are cooked with many things, but are used as a tonic, as they have the ability to clean out your colon.

I had a nice meal last week of venison steak cooked with mushrooms, onions and ramps; along with some potatoes and a salad. Hillbilly fare.

From looking at them, I seem to see a pattern:

pictures of animals (cool!)
self-portraits of young girls who act shocked (WTF?)
the outcome of some internet based survey ("I am a raging serial killer")
the random cam phone thing

so it means people do the same thing - they write, they talk, they interact, they live. it's good and it's bad. but it's life and to quote Firesign Theatre "the future - I say live it or live with it"

I've been busier than I thought I would be. The key is this - have fun and enjoy life the way you want to. If you want to sit home and read, do it. If you want to tend to a garden, do it. If you want to travel, do it, if you want to sit in bars, do it. Do what your heart tells you and enjoy yourself, and good things will eventually happen.

radio radio

to me, they are a great radio station. But then again, I like college radio. I hate XM radio and Siruis. Well, I can't say I hate it becuase I won't turn it on. But I remember staying at a friends house one holiday season and they had some DMX cable radio digitial music thingie. Interesting - many channels they said! anything you want! click on the funky remote and read about the song! where's the buy button I ask them? Oh wait, here is the "alternative" channel. Wait, that's Sonic Youth! Oh, but they are on Geffen on not their SST stuff. In fact, all the "alt" music was major label alt music.

But here's the thing - there are no DJs ans that sucks. Sure, DJs can suck sometimes, but they can entertain and enlighten. They can open a window on their world if they are not held back. A friend who I used to DJ with in Florida used to tell me "listening to college radio is like trying many resturants. Some times the food will be great, and others not so great." Variety is the spice of life and all that.

This tape was consumed by the tape deck in my car. It is a drag as I really miss this tape. I made it of all records (yes!) made in 1988 that I owned at the time. Ever since I had a turntable and a tape deck, I was making mix tapes for myself. I would make them for friends as well, and foist them upon them like fruitcake at the holidays. I think with my goofy music selection, people would not know what to really make of them. I enjoyed them, and I realized to not dump them on people as much as enjoy them for what they are. It's probably why I enjoyed doing radio shows - ladling out large chunks of music which moved me at that moment.

Now I make CDs for myself. Always audio CDs - an hour or so. Shorter than the tapes. But the worst thing? They don't last as long. That tape was made in 1989, which meant it made the move from MD to CA and then to WV, and probably rode in 3-4 cars, and lived on several tape decks. It always sounded just fine. Now I burn a CD and I have to be careful or in 2 weeks in the car it's scratched and trashed. Did we really move forward?
